ABILENE, Texas - Jessica Torick led Mississippi College to a 26-24, 19-25, 26-24, 25-21 victory over Howard Payne with 16 kills Friday afternoon at McMurry University's Kimbrell Arena. Torick hit .318 with just two attacking errors on 44 attacks and got help from Megan Deen and Courtney Nordyke who added nine and eight kills respectively.

The match played back-and-forth in sets one and three as it took the Choctaws extra-points to defeat the Yellow Jackets in the opening game of the American Southwest Crossover Tournament.

The Choctaws hit .127 as a team while limiting HPU to just a .108 hitting percentage. In the losing effort, Tamika Heline had 17 kills and Amber Cantu-Curry had 14 for the Yellow Jackets.

MC's Katie Rowland had three solo blocks and two assists to accompany seven kills and Katie Askew had a match-high 27 digs. On the offensive end, Allie Mullins recorded 36 assists. Cathie Kilmartin led HPU's defensive attack with four assisted blocks while Kristin Hammond pitched in 25 digs.

The Choctaws improved to 10-8 overall with a 4-7 mark in league play while HPU fell to 7-13 overall with a 5-7 record in conference play.
